Facial Skin Care For the Noughties!
Through out history women have tried and tested many different forms of facial skin care. Cleopatra bathed in sour milk, the Romans used special soaps and the Greeks preferred olive oil and honey.
In the modern world we prefer our facial skin care to come in a slightly less sticky, slimey or sour smelling form!
We like nice packaging and the convenience of a nice smelling cream or lotion that will last us for a few months. This is how many big brands portray their products along with claims of wrinkle reducing and skin tightening if you apply their cream daily.
Do we have the time to investigate these claims or to look past the celebrity of the moment supporting these claims? Probably not, we live in a fast food, fast paced world and although looking into claims of rejuvenation is not a priority, it is probably near the bottom of our mental to do list.
I read some articles that shot investigation of these claims to the top of the list.
Parabens are a commonly used preservative in many big brands of cosmetics and toiletries. They have been found in tumours taken from breast cancer patients.
Basically these preservatives have been linked to cancer. It is not clear whether they are part of the cause in susceptible people but it is enough for me to want them out of my bathroom cabinet.
Fragrance sound pretty harmless after all we all want to smell nice however when used in connection with cosmetics this simple term takes on a frightening meaning.
The term fragrance is used to cover over 4000 different substances that could be added to any cosmetic or toiletry, many of which are toxic or are known carcinogens!
Mineral oils are cheap and are used by many big brand cosmetic companies as a moisturiser in their skin care ranges. They act by coating your skin and keeping in moisture.
They also strip your skin of its natural oils and can in the long term cause premature aging.
Nothing I investigated seemed to be of any great benefit and much seemed quite harmful in the long term until I stumbled upon a different type of facial skin care product.
From New Zealand comes an almost miraculous range of skin and body care that has ingredients found entirely in nature.
These ingredients include active manaku honey, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, phytessence wakame and, the jewel in the crown Cynergy TK.
Many of these ingredients have been used through the centuries for their soothing, healing and anti aging abilities and this company have blended these natural substances to produce a facial skin care range that, in my opinion is second to none on the planet!
